With just 60 days remaining before the general elections, Amanda Okyere, the Deputy Director of Protocol and Logistics for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a call for the youth to carefully consider their choices at the polls.

She emphasized that these decisions have the power to either propel the nation forward or exacerbate current hardships.

Ghana’s public debt has reached GH₵761.2 billion as of July 2024, with each Ghanaian owing over 22,000 cedis.

While the IMF forecasts that the gross public debt will decrease to below 80% of GDP in 2025 (down from nearly 100% in 2022), Ghanaians are still grappling with annual inflation exceeding 21%.

During her campaign in the Eastern and Ashanti regions, Amanda Okyere stressed the urgency of the current situation, calling for a reflective approach to the nation’s challenges.

“This is the most critical election of our lifetime,” she remarked. “As young people, we must be conscious of the actions we take in the coming days. We must rise and reset Ghana to where it belongs.”

Okyere also highlighted that Ghanaians are demanding a leader who is truthful and honest.

She described NDC flagbearer John Mahama as embodying the qualities of selflessness, dedication, and honesty, urging young voters to have confidence in his leadership.

While recent polls suggest Mahama is leading among candidates, he has cautioned his supporters against complacency, urging them to work diligently to lift Ghana out of the economic crisis caused by the current government.
