Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has proposed extending the validity of driver’s licenses to up to 10 years.
He argues that the current system, which requires renewal every two years, is inconvenient and needs to be changed.

During his campaign tour in Akwatia, Eastern Region, the Vice President emphasized that extending the renewal period would alleviate the hassle for drivers.
“We are all drivers and our drivers’ licences expire every two years, is that not the case? Unless you go to the DVLA to renew it why?
“We are saying let’s extend it, eight years, ten years. Let’s make sure we can have the driver’s license without having to go to renew it every year; it doesn’t make sense,” he stated.
