Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has unveiled plans to build six new 5,000-seater stadiums in Ghana’s newly created regions if he wins the 2024 general election.

This project is part of his broader vision to enhance sports and tourism in the country.

During the presentation of the NPP’s 2024 manifesto, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the importance of investing in sports infrastructure and supporting local teams.

He also committed to providing each Premier League club in Ghana with a bus to facilitate their transportation.

“[We will] provide a bus each to Premier League Clubs. Build six (6) 5,000-seater capacity, standard stadiums for the new regions, and promote school sports by establishing a Ghana School Sports Secretariat to create more opportunities for young people in sports, and collaborate with international sports bodies like the NBA and NFL to make Ghana a hub for emerging sports in Africa,” he said.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has pledged to reinitiate the process of electing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) through universal adult suffrage, aiming to deepen decentralization and strengthen local governance.

Speaking during the NPP manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia stated that, if elected President, his administration would decouple the creation of Districts from Constituencies, thereby preventing the automatic expansion of Parliament.

He also proposed establishing an Electoral Area Share of the Common Fund (EASCF) to empower Assembly Members in driving development at the local level.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia committed to engaging Parliament, political parties, and other stakeholders in reviewing the 1992 Constitution to promote effective national development.

“Provide values-based leadership, predicated on values such as selflessness, excellence, ethics, justice, integrity, transparency, diligence, and accountability.”

“…Review Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to empower Chiefs to strengthen local governance. Pay living allowances to Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs, and Queen mothers,” he further noted.
