In a decisive move to enhance public safety and enforce road discipline, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Felix Lamptey, today led a delegation to Tetegu Junction in response to growing concerns over illegal road crossings and traffic indiscipline in the area.

The visit, conducted in collaboration with heads of various security agencies, was aimed at addressing the dangerous trend of pedestrians deliberately bypassing the designated footbridge, risking their lives by crossing the busy road unlawfully.

Accompanying the MCE were Hon. Bright Adabra and members of the Unit Committee, who joined efforts to engage the public and educate commuters about the consequences of ignoring road safety infrastructure. The delegation also issued a strong warning against the growing menace of Okada riders who park along the road and obstruct vehicular and pedestrian movement, posing a threat to public safety.

To address the issue proactively:
• A team of city guards will be stationed at the junction to enforce order and prevent illegal crossings.
• The Municipal Assembly is preparing to pass a bylaw that will prohibit crossing the road at unauthorized points, compelling pedestrians to use the footbridge.
• Continuous public sensitization campaigns will be held to raise awareness on road safety and reduce accidents.

Speaking at the site, Hon. Lamptey emphasized, “We are not only interested in enforcing the law but also in protecting lives. This behavior must stop before we lose more innocent people to avoidable accidents.”

The MCE reiterated that the safety and well-being of residents remains the assembly’s top priority, and violators of the forthcoming bylaw will face strict penalties.
