Police in Wenchi, Bono Region, fatally shot a suspected armed robber early Saturday, December 28, during an exchange of gunfire along the Wenchi-Awisa stretch.
A police source confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident occurred around 3:40 a.m., and the suspect’s body has been deposited at the Wenchi Government Hospital mortuary.

The source revealed that the suspect was part of a group of four armed robbers who had attacked passengers traveling in a Sprinter and a Yutong bus.
The robbery, taking place near the Awisa cemetery, was disrupted when a police night patrol team arrived at the scene, leading to a gunfire exchange that claimed the life of one suspect.
The rest of the robbers managed to escape, but the police retrieved a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, a student bag containing two Itel mobile phones, a power bank, six ‘BB’ cartridges and undisclosed sums of money.
All the passengers escaped unhurt the source indicated, saying, no arrest had since been made as police investigations continued.
