The Christ the King Parish in Accra was steeped in grief on Thursday, August 14, as the children of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, paid a moving tribute to their father during a solemn vigil.

In an emotional address, they described him as “irreplaceable” ,a loving father whose guidance, compassion, and unwavering presence shaped their lives. They shared cherished memories of his devotion, recalling how he taught them that success was measured not only by personal achievements but by the lives one touched along the way.

“Your love was steady, your love was gentle, and it was the warmth that filled our home,” they said, their voices trembling.

They recounted how, even when official duties took him abroad, he never missed a special moment. “You called us every day when you travelled. You taught us to dream big but stay grounded, to see compassion as strength, to speak the truth, and to serve others as the greatest legacy,” they reflected.

The tribute grew more emotional as they questioned the suddenness of his passing.
“Daddy, why did you leave us so soon? Who will we call in the middle of the night when we have questions? Who will have the answers? You are irreplaceable, Edwardo,” they said through tears.

Dr. Omane Boamah was among eight people who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash, which also claimed the lives of Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The aircraft’s crew Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah also perished in the crash.

A state funeral for the victims will take place on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square in Accra. Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed have already been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
