The Governing Board of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has dismissed the petition by the Public Services Workers Union of the NIA calling for the removal of Executive Secretary Professor Kenneth Attafuah.

In a letter dated July 1 to the Office of the Presidency, NIA staff claimed the petition was driven by persistent unfair labor practices within the organization, among other issues.

However, the governing board has rejected the petition, reaffirming their support for Prof. Ken Attafuah to continue in his role.

The NIA Governing Board has criticized the Division Public Service Workers’ Union for urging President Akufo-Addo to dismiss the Executive Secretary without first adhering to all internal procedures.

The Board views this action as premature and inappropriate, emphasizing that the union should have resolved any concerns through internal channels before seeking external intervention.

“As stated by the National Labour Commission (NLC) at a hearing on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024 into ongoing negotiations between Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (MSC) and the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU), the NIA Division of the PSWU (NIA PSWU) has no right to petition His Excellency the President to remove the Executive Secretary without exhausting internal procedures; the NLC declared the conduct of the NIA PSWU as both “illegal and completely out of line,” the release added.

Meanwhile, the Board urged the staff to have more faith in the leadership, assuring them of its commitment to addressing their concerns appropriately.
