Traditional leaders in Zongo communities across the Ashanti Region have increased their efforts to engage with the leadership of major political parties to prevent violence in various communities ahead of the 2024 elections.
The Zongo Traditional Council of Chiefs has strongly condemned recent clashes between National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ejura (Ashanti Region) and Mamobi (Greater Accra Region).

The chiefs emphasized the need for all stakeholders to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring a peaceful election in December, stressing that violence should not have any place, particularly in Zongo communities, before, during, or after the election.
The recent violent incidents between NDC and NPP supporters have reignited concerns over the importance of warning political parties and their supporters to maintain peace.
The Council has also called on the Electoral Commission to ensure transparency throughout the election process. They voiced their concerns about the violent disturbances in Bawku and pledged spiritual support for a lasting resolution. The chiefs are committed to reaching out to political parties to promote a peaceful dialogue.

Alhaji Abdul Mummin Abubakar Ali, Secretary of the Zongo Traditional Council of Chiefs in the Ashanti Region, addressed a news conference in Kumasi on Friday, November 15, 2024.

“The primary essence of all political parties and being a member of that party is to bring development to Ghanaians. No political party can succeed in the atmosphere of violence and anarchy. Nothing about politics is worth killing someone or injuring ourselves as brothers and sisters of the same community. Let’s not make politics divide us.
“We should refrain from insulting each other and respect everyone’s views regardless of their political affiliation after all it is a game of one man one vote. While it is important to vote on the voting day, we in Zongo should do so peacefully and abide by the rules and regulations of the Electoral Commission.
“As Muslims, our religion Islam requires that we accommodate, tolerate and respect other people’s views. We believe that Allah the Most Gracious has already chosen the person to lead this country”
