The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the temporary suspension of three pharmacies from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) following what it describes as irregularities identified during a routine claims verification exercise.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect from May 14, 2026, affects DELDEM Pharma Limited at Iron City in Weija, Paramedica Pharmacy at Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma, and Desh Chemist at Amasaman along Odumase High Street in the Greater Accra Region.
In a public notice, the NHIA said the affected facilities have been removed from the list of credentialed providers under the scheme due to suspected fraudulent claims and service transactions.
According to the Authority, the findings from its verification exercise revealed “material irregularities” that raise concerns of possible fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.
“These irregularities have raised reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement,” the statement said.
The NHIA stressed that the suspended pharmacies are not permitted to dispense medicines or provide services under the NHIS during the suspension period.
It further advised NHIS members to seek pharmaceutical services from other accredited providers nationwide to avoid disruptions in access to care.
The Authority also issued a strong warning to all credentialed healthcare providers, insisting that it will not tolerate practices that undermine the integrity and sustainability of the scheme.
