Armed national security officers and police have stormed Panbros Salt Industries Limited to assist in the seizure of a portion of the company’s salt pans.
The land in dispute is reportedly being claimed by a Chinese investor who intends to convert the area into a real estate development.
The contested portion of the salt pans is located within the Weija Ramsar site, a government-protected wetland area.
The move has sparked concerns over environmental preservation and the legality of converting the ecologically sensitive land into commercial property.
Authorities are currently on-site to ensure that the seizure is carried out without incident, while the matter remains under investigation.
