Former Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam, has said successive governments in Ghana have failed to deliver the level of transformation needed to improve living conditions, leaving many communities deprived.

Speaking at a youth leadership workshop in Tamale on Thursday, Dr Amin Adam argued that despite decades of varying governance systems, the country is yet to achieve meaningful development outcomes.

“We’ve had military regimes, short-lived civilian governments, and constitutional regimes, but we really still haven’t arrived because our people are still deprived,” he said.

“From Independence until now, we have had one failed independence after another, and that’s why our communities are so deprived,” he added.

The workshop, organised by the Anta Nextgen Foundation, brought together young participants for training in public speaking and leadership ethics.

Dr Amin Adam said poor leadership has been a key factor behind the country’s slow pace of transformation, despite its resource potential.

“But with effective leadership, we should be able to get out of this challenge given the resources that we have,” he said.

He urged greater investment in mentoring and developing young leaders, describing it as critical to building a more effective and accountable leadership class for the future.
