Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo has launched a fierce critique of coach Aboubakar Ouattara, branding him incompetent and demanding his immediate dismissal.

This criticism comes after the club’s poor start to the season, with consecutive defeats leaving them at the bottom of the table.

Ouattara had initially raised expectations with an unbeaten run, but he nearly led the team to relegation last season.

Now, both fans and Polo are questioning his capability to lead the team effectively.

“Ouattara almost took the team down last season. Why continue with a coach like him?” Polo stated in an interview with Bryt FM in Koforidua.

Hearts of Oak started their campaign with a surprising defeat to newly promoted Basake Holy Stars, followed by a 2-0 loss to Heart of Lions.

The defeat against Basake heightened tensions at the Accra Sports Stadium, necessitating police protection for coach Ouattara, who skipped the post-match press conference.

Mohammed Polo, who had two stints as the club’s coach after a three-year playing career there, expressed doubts about Ouattara’s ability to turn things around.

“It took Jones Attuquayefio five years to build a competitive team, but Ouattara’s situation is different,” he said.

“If debutants like Basake Holy Stars can beat you at home, when will you elevate your game?” Polo questioned.

Hearts of Oak has flirted with relegation in the past two seasons after winning their 21st Ghana Premier League title in 2021.

The club, which claimed the African Champions League title in 2000 and is the only Ghanaian team to win a treble, is now in a challenging position.

“This isn’t the Hearts of Oak we once knew. The team suffers from poor management and lacks a competent coach who can improve player performance,” Polo stated.
