Commuters were left stranded on the Tema–Accra Motorway after a shortage of commercial buses disrupted transport services along one of the country’s busiest corridors.
The disruption followed heavy rainfall in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, which worsened travel conditions for both motorists and passengers.
Sections of the motorway deteriorated after the downpour, with potholes and weakened surfaces contributing to vehicle breakdowns and severe traffic congestion. Some drivers were forced to slow down significantly or stop altogether as conditions worsened.
Commuters who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity said they were unable to secure transport and had no option but to return home, while others reported delays that disrupted work schedules and daily activities.Breaking News Feed
The Tema–Accra Motorway continues to face recurring challenges, including poor road conditions, flooding during rainfall and periodic shortages of commercial transport.
Road users have called on the Ghana Highways Authority and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently repair damaged sections of the road and improve transport availability, particularly during adverse weather, to prevent further disruptions.
