KATH calls for more dialysis machines

The management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has called for public support to acquire additional dialysis machines to improve care for renal patients.

This appeal follows the government’s introduction of free dialysis services under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). While the initiative is expected to benefit many, KATH has raised concerns that its current resources may not be enough to meet the rising demand.

Through public donations and internally generated funds, the hospital has already procured several dialysis machines, increasing the capacity of its renal unit.

This expansion has enabled KATH to triple its dialysis sessions from 80 per month to 300.

However, the hospital’s management is worried that the growing demand for free dialysis could overwhelm its resources.

Speaking at the Second Edition of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Management-Senior Specialist/Consultants Consultative Forum in Kumasi on November 21, Chief Executive Officer Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah stressed the urgent need for strategic partnerships to support healthcare delivery at KATH.
