Police in Tatale in the Northern Region on Wednesday, May 20, arrested five persons suspected of attacking students of Calvary International School.
The arrests follow an incident that reportedly occurred on May 11, when armed men allegedly stormed the school campus, assaulted students, and forcibly closed down the school.
The proprietor of the school, Nwein Moses, who confirmed the incident, said the attack stemmed from a long-standing dispute over the school’s land, despite a High Court ruling in Tamale in favour of the institution.
He told Channel One on Wednesday, May 20, that some members of the community had rejected the court’s decision and allegedly carried out the attack.
Mr Moses said the matter was reported to the police immediately after the incident, but no arrests were made for nearly two weeks.
However, following media reports on the incident, police subsequently moved into the community and arrested five suspects in connection with the attack.
Following the arrests, some community members reportedly stormed the police station in an attempt to free the suspects. Police, however, managed to bring the situation under control.
The suspects remain in custody, while the crowd has since dispersed from the police station premises.
