The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the region to step up field operations and adopt a more hands-on approach to public safety, sanitation, and flood preparedness.
Her directive follows recent flood incidents in parts of the Greater Accra Region, largely attributed to poor waste management practices and the persistent blockage of drainage systems.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, May 28, the Minister warned that the worsening environmental and safety challenges require active leadership beyond office-based administration.
“These are not normal times. I, therefore, charge my MMDCEs to be on alert and constantly be on the roads, markets, and schools to ensure our people are safe. No more sitting in the office because the work is on the ground. Let us all play our part to ensure a safer, cleaner, and flood-resilient Greater Accra,” she said.
She further commended the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), security agencies, sanitation workers, community volunteers, and other stakeholders for their continued efforts in maintaining safety and responding to emergencies across the region.
Madam Ocloo stressed that collective responsibility remains critical in addressing the region’s environmental challenges, adding that sustained field presence by local authorities will be key to improving sanitation compliance, restoring discipline, and reducing disaster risks in vulnerable communities.
