Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati has responded with a dash of sarcasm to sports journalist Listowel Mensah’s call for his removal from Ghana’s relay team.

Listowel had tweeted that Azamati’s services were appreciated, but it was time for him to go, claiming to speak on behalf of all “serious Ghanaians!”

The tweet was a reaction to Team Ghana’s dropped baton in the Men’s 4x100m Olympic Games qualifiers on May 5, 2024, in the Bahamas, where Azamati was part of the second exchange that went awry.

However, the team bounced back in style, clocking 38.29s to win their heat on May 6, 2024, and securing an Olympic spot.

Azamati, who ran an impressive 9.35s as the third leg, responded to Listowel’s tweet with a witty video, questioning who exactly Listowel meant by “We” in his statement.

The sarcastic response implied that Listowel’s opinion might not be representative of all Ghanaians, as he claimed.
