Heavy traffic has built up on the Kasoa–Old Barrier stretch, leaving commuters stranded for hours on a route that normally takes less than 10 minutes to navigate.
The gridlock has been attributed to a combination of factors, including a heavily silted section along the Ataala–Old Barrier corridor.
The stretch is prone to recurring silt accumulation, particularly during the rainy season, which often slows vehicular movement and reduces road capacity.
The situation has been worsened by scattered metal scrap left on the road following an accident three days ago, when a vehicle transporting the materials overturned. The debris has since partially obstructed the roadway, further impeding traffic flow.
Motorists and passengers have expressed frustration over the prolonged delays, with many spending several hours in traffic as movement remains severely restricted.
Authorities have since moved in to clear the silt and remove the debris, while also filling potholes with stones in an effort to ease congestion and restore normal traffic flow along the affected stretch.
