The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has donated GH¢100,000 from his personal funds to support projects benefiting the Ghana National Fire Service, the Nadowli Kaleo Students Union, and Sombo Senior High School.

The largest portion of the donation will go toward completing a fence wall for the Fire Service, a project aimed at improving security at its regional headquarters.

Additional support included items worth over GH¢70,000 for Sombo Senior High School’s home economics department and GH¢10,000 for the Nadowli Kaleo Students Union.

Bagbin said the contribution reflected his personal commitment to causes that advance safety, education, and youth development.

“I consider this a rare opportunity to contribute to three noble causes that are particularly dear to my heart,” he said, stressing the need to prioritise national safety and security.

He warned against neglecting the role of emergency services, adding that, “the Ghana National Fire Service is one institution we cannot afford to treat with indifference.”

Bagbin also reaffirmed Parliament’s backing for policies to strengthen the Fire Service, including efforts to retool and better equip it for improved efficiency.

He praised regional leaders of the Service for their initiative in mobilising resources, expressing confidence that the completed fence wall would enhance the protection of the facility.

Turning to education, the Speaker urged individuals and organisations to invest more in young people.

“We must support our students to realise their full potential,” he said, calling on philanthropists and corporate bodies to contribute to both educational institutions and the Fire Service.

He added that the work of the Fire Service remains “essential to the safety and well-being of all citizens,” underscoring the need for sustained support.
