A compound house at Sawaba in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region has been gutted by fire, leaving dozens of residents homeless.

The fire broke out on Sunday, April 26, at about 8:00 p.m., and destroyed 13 rooms as well as the personal belongings of the 54 occupants.

The affected residents are currently displaced and are appealing for urgent assistance to help them cope with the situation.

Some residents and authorities have attributed the extent of the destruction to poor access routes in the area, which reportedly delayed firefighters’ response to the scene.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Alhassan Ben Abdullah, who visited the site to assess the damage and commiserate with victims, told Citi News that the Assembly is putting in place swift measures to support reconstruction efforts and provide temporary relief for the displaced persons
