The planned state visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Ghana has been put on hold, with xenophobia cited as a key factor behind the decision.

Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, disclosed this on the Pulse, describing the xenophobia issue as a “high-tension matter.

He did not provide a new date for the visit, but noted that diplomatic engagements between the two countries are ongoing to address concerns and ensure a smooth visit when rescheduled.

The postponement comes amid renewed public debate in Ghana and across the region about attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa, which have strained relations between affected countries.

Government officials are expected to provide further updates on the visit once consultations between Accra and Pretoria are concluded.
