The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has refuted reports suggesting it is considering the sale of its newly commissioned headquarters, describing the claims as false and misleading.

Construction of The Bank Square commenced in 2019 during the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and was commissioned by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2024.

The facility replaced the Bank of Ghana’s former headquarters, which officials said had become inadequate and posed safety concerns.

The Bank of Ghana officially moved its operations to The Bank Square in September 2025.

However, a report by myjoyonline stated that the central bank is considering a sale of the new HQ.

But in a statement on June 2, 2026, the BoG dismissed a publication, insisting that no such discussions or plans are underway.

“The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading,” the statement said.

According to the Bank, it is neither considering, discussing, nor planning the sale of its new headquarters, which it described as a critical asset supporting its operations and statutory mandate.

“The facility, which was commissioned to support the Bank’s operations and enhance efficiency in the discharge of its statutory mandate, remains a critical asset of the Bank,” the statement noted.

The central bank urged the public and media organisations to disregard the publication, warning that unverified reports of such nature could undermine confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary uncertainty in the market.

“We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication. Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty,” the Bank stated.
