Ghana and South Korea have signed a historic Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa-Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun.
Announcing the development in a Facebook post, Ablakwa described the agreement as a major breakthrough in diplomatic relations between Ghana and South Korea, noting that it is the first visa waiver arrangement reached by the two countries in almost 50 years of formal bilateral ties.
Ablakwa indicated that discussions are ongoing to extend the visa waiver arrangement to holders of Ordinary Passports, a development that could further enhance travel, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
“Ghana and South Korea today signed a historic Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports. Negotiations will continue to bring on board holders of Ordinary Passports.”
Under the agreement, holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports from both countries will be able to travel between Ghana and South Korea without the need for visas, a move expected to facilitate official engagements, strengthen diplomatic cooperation and deepen bilateral relations.
