The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has disclosed that Ghana’s delegation to Zambia during President John Dramani Mahama’s recent state visit included a strong representation of local businesses as part of a strategic effort to promote economic collaboration and investment opportunities.

According to the Minister, the decision to include Ghanaian businesses in the delegation was intentional, aimed at creating direct linkages between Ghanaian entrepreneurs and their counterparts in Zambia, while also opening up new avenues for trade and partnerships.

Sam George explained that the composition of the delegation reflected the government’s broader agenda of supporting local enterprises and positioning them to benefit from international engagements.

“The president went to Zambia with five ministers of state, but we decided to go with twelve Ghanaian businesses in different areas.

“And barely 72-hours on the ground, our Zambian counterpart organised almost 28 different meetings for us with businesses and regulators, and I only needed to make a phone call to make all these happen. We had a business summit on the last day and agreed to build and learn from each other.”

President Mahama undertook the three-day state visit to Zambia beginning February 4, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.

Sam George highlighted that the inclusion of the 12 Ghanaian businesses allowed for meaningful engagement within a short period, noting that the delegation was able to secure multiple high-level meetings with key stakeholders in Zambia, including business leaders and regulatory authorities.
