The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the Ghana Police Service to expedite efforts to locate and arrest a teacher at Bole Senior High School accused of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a student in the Science Laboratory.

The Minister described the incident as unacceptable and shameful, urging the police to ensure the suspect is apprehended and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others. Reports indicate that the teacher has fled to neighboring border towns.

Speaking at the 2026 GALOP National School Awards on Thursday, July 9, Iddrisu said the Ministry was closely monitoring the police investigation and expected the matter to be handled swiftly and professionally.

“The incident in Bole is unacceptable and shameful. So, the Police, we are watching you and how you proceed with the investigation and how you go further to prosecution to deter that unacceptable behaviour and conduct of a teacher,” he stated.

The Education Minister also directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to deal firmly with all forms of indiscipline in schools, whether involving teachers or students.

He said misconduct that falls short of acceptable professional and behavioural standards must attract appropriate sanctions to preserve discipline and integrity within the education sector.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has halted the payment of the teacher’s salary following his failure to report to duty after the incident.
