The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a 40-foot trailer carrying five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg in a major anti-drug operation.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, April 30, the Commission said the consignment, which was en route to Niger, was seized following an intelligence-led operation.

“The bust serves as a huge pharmaceutical drug interception in recent times” the post said.

NACOC added that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the shipment and are currently in custody, assisting with investigations.

Authorities believe they form part of a wider trafficking network involved in the cross-border movement of controlled substances.

“Tapentadol is a potent opioid analgesic that is strictly regulated due to its high risk of abuse and dependency”, the post added.

NACOC says it is intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts to curb the trafficking of illicit and controlled drugs.

The Commission also indicated that it is working with international partners to trace the origin of the consignment and dismantle the network behind it.
