The Electoral Commission (EC) remains resolute in the face of criticism from political parties, according to its Director of Elections, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.

He emphasized that the EC is committed to conducting free and fair elections, without bias towards any party, including the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr. Quaicoe dismissed the persistent attacks on the EC’s integrity by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a potential strategy for the upcoming general elections.

He expressed confidence that the EC’s actions will be vindicated, just as they were during the Ejisu by-elections, where candidates praised the EC’s work after the polls.

The EC chief drew parallels with the experience of Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, who faced similar challenges during his extended tenure as EC chairperson.

He noted that Afari-Gyan persevered and succeeded, and similarly, the current EC will focus on doing what is right, regardless of criticisms.

Dr. Quaicoe likened the situation to a football match, where teams often criticize referees to exert pressure.

He emphasized that the EC will not be swayed by such tactics and will continue to work diligently to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. He stated, “We’re not agitated at all… Once you know what you’re doing is right, you know posterity will judge you.”

The NDC has accused the EC of manipulating the upcoming 2024 election results to favor the NPP, but the EC has maintained that such allegations are baseless and that it remains neutral in its service to the nation.
